俄亥俄州立大学目前是美国最大的大学，它由哥伦布的主校园和位于利马、曼斯菲尔德、马里恩、直布罗陀岛、纽瓦克和渥斯特的分校组成。它成立于1870年，是一所州立大学。俄亥俄州立大学是美国一所顶尖的公立大学，在美国所有注重研究的大学里，综合排名第15，在全美全部大学中综合排名第57，并是俄亥俄州排名第一的公立学校。

        俄亥俄州立大学位于俄亥俄州首府哥伦布，当地有许多政府机关和大型企业，具有丰富的体育活动和艺术气氛，是美国东北部发展最快的城市之一。

历史沿革
       1870年俄亥俄农业和机械学院成立，1873年开始接受学生。这所学校一开始位于哥伦布市外，其主要专业是农业和机械。俄亥俄州后来决定扩大教育范围，从1878年开始这个大学改名为俄亥俄州立大学。
俄亥俄州立大学的校友中包括两名诺贝尔奖获得者，Paul Flory(1974年诺贝尔化学奖得主)和William A. Fowler(1983年诺贝尔物理学奖得主)。
到1998年为止俄亥俄州立大学运行硕耳射电望远镜，世界上最大和使用最长的用于收缩外星智慧的射电望远镜。

体育、俱乐部和传统
        俄亥俄州立大学参加与其它大学比赛的运动队称为“橡树队”，俄亥俄州立大学的运动队参加全美大学生体育协会和十大联盟。学校的颜色是猩红色和灰色。
俄亥俄州立大学美国足球队于2002年获得大学足球赛冠军，这是他们继1942年、1954年、1957年和1968年后第五次获冠军。

俄亥俄州立大学的电动汽车“橡树子弹”于2004年10月3日在犹他州以437.3千米/小时的速度创电动汽车世界纪录。此外它还以506.9km/h创美国纪录。这辆车是该大学汽车研究和智慧交通中心的一组工程学生研制的。
俄亥俄州立大学有一个电视台和两个广播电台，从2003年开始其电视台开始播送高清晰度电视，此外它还有一个学生组织的互联网电台和一个网络电视台。学校的校报叫《灯》。

Welcome to the Department of Economics at The Ohio State University. The department’s 35 faculty members teach and conduct research in areas such as behavioral economics macroeconomics labor economics econometrics monetary economics industrial organization economic demography and economic history. We have more than 500 undergraduate majors and more about 100 graduate students.

Recently the department’s faculty was ranked 17th among all U.S. university departments in economics journals and 6th among all U.S. public universities. In our subfields we ranked 10th in Financial Economics 13th in Mathematical and Quantitative Methods 13th in Microeconomics and 17th in Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy. Other fields with top 25 ratings include Labor Industrial Organization Economic History and Health Education and Welfare. Our faculty members have served as presidents of academic associations and are members of prestigious economic societies. This expertise translates into high quality instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Our graduate program focuses on producing outstanding Ph.D. graduates who learn to produce rigorous and innovative economic research. Our Ph.D. graduates obtain jobs primarily in academia but also in government and industry.

Our undergraduate program consists of both B.A. and B.S. tracks. We want our majors to learn important theoretical and empirical aspects of economics. We also want them to know how to ask independent questions and pursue rigorous answers on their own. Our undergraduate students go on to careers in government law education and business with many pursuing post-graduate degrees. Our department’s undergraduate counselors assist students in selecting courses finding internships and choosing career paths.
